Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

Trade Wars in 21st Century, Make US Lose Again (EU-Vox)

EU’s Vox published a commentary by Senior Research Fellows, Antoine Bouët and David Laborde, related to their recent discussion paper, “US trade wars in the 21st century with emerging countries: Make America and its partners lose again.” In the article, Bouët and Laborde argued that the net effect of trade wars on US welfare and GDP is either zero or negative. They further added such trade wars would have wider negative effects for the trading partners, and potentially, the world economy.
