Samuel Benin

Samuel Benin is the Acting Director for Africa in the Development Strategies and Governance Unit. He conducts research on national strategies and public investment for accelerating food systems transformation in Africa and provides analytical support to the African Union’s CAADP Biennial Review.

IFPRI research was highlighted at the recent Takaful & Karama Conference in Cairo, Egypt attended by several high-level policy makers including the Prime Minister, Minister of Social Solidarity, Minister of International Cooperation, Minister of Education, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Minister of Tourism, and a representative from the Ministry of Health.

 

The Minister of Social Solidarity presented findings from IFPRI’s policy briefs on “Egypt’s Takaful and Karama cash transfer program: Evaluation of program impacts and recommendations” and higlighted IFPRI’s findings on the positive impacts of TKP on consumption, spending on food, poverty and children’s health. 

 

Panelists also referenced IFPRI’s evaluation results and recommendations from the policy brief were followed up on during the event.
