22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

COP22 in Marrakech: The COP of Action

November 13 to 16, 2016

  • 2:00 – 10:00 pm (Africa/Casablanca)
  • 9:00 – 5:00 pm (US/Eastern)
  • 7:30 – 3:30 am (Asia/Kolkata)

COP22 in Marrakech took over the reins from COP21 during which important progress was made. It focused on action items in order to achieve the priorities of The Paris Agreement, especially related to adaptation, transparency, technology transfer, mitigation, capacity building and loss and damages. For Salaheddine Mezouar, President of COP22, this conference was an “opportunity to make the voices of the most vulnerable countries to climate change heard, in particular African countries and island states. It is urgent to act on these issues linked to stability and security,” he declared. COP22 was designated as one of action.

IFPRI researchers are providing new insights into the impacts of climate change and how policy makers in Africa and Asia can combat them—boosting sustainable agricultural growth to keep the world on track to eliminate hunger and malnutrition. IFPRI research shows that there are many ways to encourage adaptation and mitigation in agriculture: Climate-smart technologies; reforms in trade, macroeconomic, and farm policy; investments in agricultural research and development, irrigation and water resources, and rural infrastructure.
